The San Francisco 49ers are adding veteran wide receiver to their roster, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The experienced pass-catcher joins San Francisco after spending the past four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, where he carved out a key role on special teams while serving as a reliable depth option at wide receiver.
Hodge’s arrival comes shortly after the 49ers lost wide receiver Ricky Pearsall to a season-ending knee injury, giving the team an experienced replacement who can strengthen both its receiving depth and special teams unit. The move also reunites Hodge with former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, who is now San Francisco’s defensive coordinator.
Now 31 years old, Hodge has earned a reputation as one of the NFL’s top special teams contributors. His ability to block punts helped him secure a Pro Bowl selection in 2024, highlighting the impact he brings beyond the offensive side of the ball. Although Atlanta signed him to a two-year extension before the 2025 campaign, the Falcons released him during the offseason alongside veteran receiver Darnell Mooney.
Throughout his eight-year NFL career, Hodge has totaled 67 receptions for 1,026 yards and two touchdowns while playing for the Los Angeles Rams, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and Atlanta Falcons. His versatility, veteran experience, and standout special teams play should make him a valuable addition to the 49ers’ roster.
The Buffalo Bills worked out Hodge last week along with a few other wide receivers, but they ended up signing Dante Pettis instead.
