The 25-year-old, a former first-round draft pick, has had an inconsistent NFL career, playing for the New York Giants and the Chiefs without securing a consistent role with either team.

Toney was selected 20th overall by the Giants in the 2021 draft from Florida. Over his first two NFL seasons, he played in 12 games for New York, starting five and recording 41 receptions for 420 yards, but no touchdowns. He was traded to the Chiefs in October 2022 for third- and sixth-round draft picks. With Kansas City, Toney made 41 catches for 340 yards and three touchdowns in 20 games, including five starts.

One of Toney’s notable performances with the Chiefs was in Super Bowl LVII in February 2023, where he caught a 5-yard touchdown pass and set a Super Bowl record with a 65-yard punt return to the Eagles’ 5-yard line. The Chiefs won the game 38-35. However, Toney’s 2023 season was marred by dropped passes and a critical offside penalty in a late-season game against the Buffalo Bills, which negated a touchdown. He was inactive for the last seven games of the season, including the Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
