Jon Berti may be activated as early as September 9, when the Yankees are set to face the Royals, according to manager Aaron Boone.

Berti has been rehabbing in the Minor Leagues since August 24, hitting .211 (4-for-19) with one home run and three RBIs over seven games with Double-A Somerset, and .529 (9-for-17) with one home run and two RBIs in four games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, as of September 8.
He’s been recovering from a left calf strain sustained on May 24, which was re-aggravated during the All-Star break in July. Berti was moved to the 60-day IL on June 12 and has received at least two platelet-rich plasma injections to aid his recovery.
“One of the things we love about him is his versatility,” Boone noted. “He brings speed to the bases, can play the outfield well, is a strong infielder, and as a right-handed bat, he’s a valuable asset for our bench.”
Cody Poteet pitched 2 2/3 innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on September 5 against Syracuse, allowing two runs and five hits. This appearance was his fourth Minor League rehab outing since August 20. Yankees GM Brian Cashman has indicated that Poteet could provide depth later in the season. His last Major League appearance was on June 12 against Kansas City.
