A month ago, the quarterback from Reagan High School in North Carolina, became the first commitment for NC State’s 2026 football recruiting class. A dual-sport athlete, not only committed to playing football under Dave Doeren and his staff but also pledged to join the Wolfpack baseball team as an infielder and pitcher.
After solidifying his college plans, Jacob Smith aimed to build on a strong sophomore season, during which he amassed nearly 1,500 passing yards and 160 rushing yards.
Recently, Smith completed 12 of 20 passes for 176 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in Reagan High School’s 34-28 home victory over the Mooresville Blue Devils. The week before, he threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-13 win against the Marvin Ridge Mavericks.
However, earlier this week, Smith shared on social media that his 2024 season has been cut short due to an ACL tear requiring surgery. In his post, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound three-star athlete expressed his disappointment, saying, “I am heartbroken to announce I will miss the rest of my junior season due to an ACL tear that requires surgery. God has a plan for me and I know that this is just all a part of His plan. I look forward to attacking this recovery and coming back stronger than ever!”
Jacob Smith is still the only addition to the 2026 NC State football recruiting class at this early stage in the process.
