Rangers veteran is scheduled to announce his retirement from active play at a press conference on Friday at Globe Life Field, concluding his career as a Texas Ranger.

Andrus will be joined by former teammate and Rangers Hall of Famer Michael Young, who now serves as a special assistant to the general manager, and Ron Washington, the current manager of the Los Angeles Angels and former Texas manager during Andrus’ initial six seasons in the majors.

Additionally, Andrus and Young will take part in the ceremonial first pitch before Friday night’s game against the Angels.

Throughout his career, Andrus posted a .269 batting average with 102 home runs, 775 RBIs, and 347 stolen bases over 2,059 games with Texas (2009-2020), Oakland (2021-2022), and the Chicago White Sox (2022-2023). He did not play in 2024, having been with Arizona in Spring Training on a Minor League contract.

Acquired from Atlanta in July 2007, Andrus made his Major League debut on Opening Day in 2009. He compiled a .274/.330/.372 slash line with 76 home runs and 636 RBIs in 1,652 games with Texas through 2020. He holds several Rangers records, including 305 stolen bases, and ranks second in games played, at bats (6,366), and triples (48), while being third in runs (893) and hits (1,743).

A two-time AL All-Star (2010 and 2012), Andrus was named the Rangers’ Rookie of the Year in 2009 and Player of the Year in 2017, when he achieved career highs in runs (100), hits (191), doubles (44), home runs (20), and RBIs (88). He played exclusively as a shortstop with Texas and appeared in 145 or more games in ten of the 11 seasons from 2009 to 2019.
