BREAKING: Cubs Confirm Reunion With 2.17 ERA All-Star Reliever

The Chicago Cubs made a low-profile addition to their bullpen by bringing back a familiar face.

Veteran left-hander, who excelled with the Cubs last season, has rejoined the organization on a minor league contract after being released by the Los Angeles Angels. The 37-year-old posted an impressive 2.17 ERA across 57 appearances for Chicago in 2025, earning an All-Star selection.

According to Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, Pomeranz signed the deal recently and has already begun pitching for Triple-A Iowa. He made his first appearance on Sunday, tossing a scoreless inning while striking out two batters.

Adams noted that Chicago’s unsettled bullpen could create an opportunity for Pomeranz to return to the majors if he continues to pitch well in Des Moines.

Pomeranz enjoyed a strong comeback campaign with the Cubs last season, recording 57 strikeouts over 49.2 innings while reestablishing himself as a reliable late-inning reliever.

It was his first Major League action since 2021 with the San Diego Padres due to a torn flexor tendon and several setbacks in his recovery.

Signing Pomeranz could be a very smart move by the Cubs, who have suffered many injuries to their pitching staff.
