The Boston Red Sox have officially optioned right-handed pitcher to Triple-A Worcester, the team announced Tuesday. The move comes as part of a roster adjustment aimed at strengthening the club’s pitching depth during a critical stretch of the season.
Uberstine, who had been with the major league roster in a limited role, showed flashes of potential but struggled to find consistency on the mound. Over his recent appearances, command issues and elevated pitch counts limited his effectiveness, prompting the organization to seek further development opportunities for the young arm.
By sending Uberstine to Worcester, the Red Sox hope he will benefit from more regular innings and focused coaching. Team officials emphasized that the decision is not a setback, but rather a strategic step in his progression.
“Tyler has the tools we like,” a team representative said. “This is about getting him into a rhythm and continuing to build his confidence.”
In a corresponding move, the Red Sox are expected to recall a fresh arm from Triple-A to help stabilize the bullpen, though the team has not yet confirmed a replacement.
The Worcester Red Sox, Boston’s Triple-A affiliate, will now look to integrate Uberstine into their rotation or bullpen as they continue their own campaign.
The Red Sox remain in contention in a competitive American League landscape, and roster flexibility is expected to play a key role as the season unfolds.
