The New York Mets strengthened their roster with several strong additions this offseason, but there are still a few areas that could use improvement—particularly right field and designated hitter.
According to FanSided’s Chris Landers, the Mets should avoid relying on Brett Baty to fill those roles. Instead, he suggests the team might reach out to the Boston Red Sox about acquiring their designated hitter and outfielder, Masataka Yoshida, who is currently enjoying a resurgence during the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
“The Mets don’t currently have a compelling answer either in right field or at DH, and with all due respect to Brett Baty, I’m not sure he’s the answer at either spot. Yoshida could toggle between both and raise the floor of the bottom of a New York lineup that threatens to get pretty top-heavy. It’s unclear whether the Sox have any interest in Vientos at this point, but a move to Fenway Park might be exactly what he needs to revive a once-promising career,” Landers wrote.

In his three years with the Red Sox, Yoshida has slashed .282/.337/.425/.762 with 65 doubles, 29 home runs, and 154 RBI in 303 games. He gets on base and knocks runners in, which is perfect for the DH spot.
Currently, he’s on year four of a five-year, $90 million deal. As long as the Mets are ready to take on the remainder of his contract, and with their reserves they should be, it seems like a good deal.
Hopefully, the Mets find a way to make a deal for him, as he could be the last upgrade to put them over the edge in the National League.
