MAJOR BREAKING: St. Louis Cardinals At The Verge of Another Blockbuster Trade With Red sox In Exchange of Two Prospects

The St. Louis Cardinals have been one of the most active teams this offseason, dealing established players such as Sonny Gray, Willson Contreras, and Nolan Arenado to playoff contenders. In return, they’ve added a mix of prospects and major-league-ready arms to bolster their rotation.

Another notable name drawing trade interest is All-Star . With two years of team control remaining, the All-Star could command a substantial return, and multiple clubs are reportedly monitoring his availability.

MLB Network insider Jon Morosi recently discussed possible infield targets for the Boston Red Sox following their loss of Alex Bregman, and Donovan was among the players mentioned.

Why Boston Is a Logical Fit

Morosi suggested that a deal between St. Louis and Boston wouldn’t be surprising, noting that the two organizations have been in frequent contact throughout the offseason. According to him, Donovan remains a realistic trade candidate in the weeks ahead.

Donovan earned the Cardinals’ lone All-Star selection in 2025, posting a .287/.353/.422 slash line with 10 home runs, 50 RBIs, and a .775 OPS. His versatility and consistent production make him an attractive option for Boston.

Although he bats left-handed, Donovan could fill Bregman’s vacancy at third base, play second base, or shift to virtually any spot across the infield and outfield. With the Red Sox having strengthened their pitching depth—highlighted by the signing of Ranger Suárez—they may be positioned to swing another significant trade.

From St. Louis’s perspective, adding another pitching prospect along with some position-player depth would be appealing. While Chaim Bloom has already completed two trades with his former organization, a third deal could make sense given the circumstances.

Boston’s farm system, largely constructed during Bloom’s tenure, gives them the assets to make such a move. Though Cardinals fans might be reluctant to part with Donovan, dealing him could help accelerate the team’s rebuild.

As spring training approaches, Donovan’s market could shift, but the Cardinals will likely aim to settle his future sooner rather than later.
