MAJOR SET BACK: Diamondbacks Part ways With $54M Ace Who Join Orioles.

Most of the premier pitchers available in free agency have already landed with new teams. Framber Valdez remains the top arm still unsigned and is expected to command a huge contract in the near future. Outside of Valdez, elite pitching options are limited.

That said, Arizona Diamondbacks starter  is widely viewed as the next-best pitcher available. He could come off the board soon as contenders look to strengthen their rotations, and several playoff hopefuls are still searching for pitching help this offseason.

Just Baseball’s Ryan Finkelstein recently projected that Arizona Diamondbacks starter  would depart Arizona and ink a two-year, $54 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles.

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen

At one point, the Chicago Cubs were rumored to be a potential landing spot for Gallen, but that speculation was later debunked after it was revealed that Bob Nightengale’s report was inaccurate. With the Cubs now out of the mix following their trade for Edward Cabrera, Finkelstein believes Baltimore has emerged as the frontrunner. The Orioles have been among the most aggressive teams this offseason, making them a logical destination for Gallen.

Baltimore’s need for a frontline starter and added rotation depth is clear. Their lack of reliable starting pitching played a major role in their struggles last season and ultimately contributed to their failure to reach the postseason.

Bringing in Gallen would represent a significant upgrade for the Orioles, and the organization has already shown a willingness to spend. Their recent blockbuster acquisition of Pete Alonso demonstrated that financial commitment, and a major deal for Gallen would align perfectly with their push to contend.
