The Arizona Diamondbacks completed a trade Tuesday to bring third baseman Nolan Arenado over from the St. Louis Cardinals, adding an experienced leader to their roster. Speaking Wednesday with Arizona Sports, the 34-year-old shared his outlook on the move and what he hopes to contribute in Arizona.
“I still hold myself to a high standard offensively,” Arenado said. “Really, on both sides of the game. I expect to go out there and help this team win in every way I can. The past couple of years haven’t gone how I wanted, with injuries and other challenges, but the adjustments I’m working on — and have already discussed with the hitting coaches — feel like they’re going to pay off. I’m feeling confident.”

Arenado also expressed excitement about joining a dynamic Diamondbacks lineup.
“Being surrounded by this group is exciting,” he said. “They can really run, steal bases, and put themselves in scoring position. If I do my part, there’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to drive those guys in.”
It’s also notable that Arenado agreed to waive his no-trade clause to make the deal happen, a clear indication that he’s eager for the opportunity to contribute in Arizona.
An eight-time All-Star and once regarded as one of the premier third basemen in baseball, Arenado acknowledges that his peak years are in the past. Still, after back-to-back challenging seasons, he’s confident that a fresh start with the Diamondbacks could spark a turnaround and lead to a resurgence in 2025.
