On Thursday morning, following National Signing Day, Texas Tech volleyball revealed the addition of four new student-athletes to its 2025 class. Head coach Tony Graystone and his staff officially signed Lauren Buchanan, Shelby Ignash, Brytn Lyon, and Madeleine Smotherman to the program.
“This is a very talented group, and I’m truly excited about what we’re adding to our program,” said Graystone.
“Easily one of the best classes we’ve signed since I’ve been at Tech, each of these players will make us better on day one. With this class, we’re adding a lot of offense, a top tier setter and a great libero. This is a group of terrific athletes, and they’re going to change the overall look of our team and help us play with more tempo.”
Lauren Buchanan – Chelsea, Alabama – Outside Hitter
“To me, Lauren is the best HS volleyball player in the state of Alabama right now, and I’m very excited about her becoming a Red Raider,” said Graystone.
“A true 6-rotation outside hitter, Lauren is a serious point scorer with a great arm, and an advanced offensive toolbox. She’s a great fit for how we train and like to use our outside hitters.”
Shelby Ignash – Cass City, Michigan – Middle Blocker
“Shelby’s an incredible athlete and one of the best offensive middle blockers in her class,” said Graystone.
“She’s great off 1 foot and has a big time arm. A national top 150 prospect, Shelby’s ceiling is very high, and we see an impactful future for her as a Red Raider.”
Madeleine Smotherman – Dallas, Texas – Libero
“Maddie has become one of the best Texas liberos in this class, and is a big addition to our back row position group,” said Graystone.
“Maddie’s an athletic, fearless defender, and takes full command of the back row. I love Maddie’s energy and leadership, she’s a great teammate and is going to fit right in as a Red Raider.”
Brytn Lyon – St. Louis Missouri – Setter
“Brytn is the #1 ranked setter in Missouri for the 2025 class and is a great addition to our program,” said Graystone.
“Brytn knows how to run a fast offense, makes great decisions, and always connects with her hitters. She’s had great training and will hit the ground running when she gets to Tech.”
