The Cleveland Guardians wrapped up the 2024 MLB season as champions of the American League Central, finishing with a record of 92 wins and 69 losses. After winning their postseason matchup against the Detroit Tigers in the American League Division Series, the Guardians were eliminated by the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. Just one series away from the World Series, the Guardians will focus on regrouping this offseason for another chance at the championship in 2025.
Offseasons are usually filled with rumors about player signings, but the Guardians are focused on potentially bringing in a catching prospect for 2026. According to Guardians Prospective on ‘X,’ they are favored to sign catcher prospect Sebastian Puche from Zulia, Venezuela.
Puche has been spotted taking swings and training with Luis Romero. The Guardians are the frontrunners to sign him when he becomes eligible on International Signing Day in January 2026. Currently, with Bo Naylor and David Fry as their catchers, Puche could benefit from learning alongside them in the organization. In 2024, Naylor played 123 games, hitting .201 with 13 home runs, 39 RBIs, and a .614 on-base plus slugging percentage. Puche is definitely a player to watch in the coming seasons to see if the Guardians secure the Venezuelan prospect.
