On November 2, Nikolaj Ehlers recorded a hat trick and an assist, leading the Winnipeg Jets to a 6-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Josh Morrissey contributed a goal and an assist in the third period as the Jets secured their second consecutive win and improved to 10-1 at the start of the season. Eric Comrie stopped 20 shots, earning his third straight win.
For the Blue Jackets, Sean Kuraly and Sean Monahan each scored, but they were coming off a stretch where they had won three of four games and faced a quick turnaround with a game against the Washington Capitals on Saturday. Elvis Merzlikins made 38 saves in the loss.
Both teams went 1-for-2 on the power play. Ehlers opened the scoring at 5:13 of the first period with a slap shot after skating down from his own end. Kuraly equalized at 11:02 by scoring after a pass from James van Riemsdyk. Ehlers quickly restored the Jets’ lead with a wrist shot at 15:14.
Mason Appleton extended the Jets’ lead to 3-1 with a one-timer from the slot early in the second period. Monahan brought the Blue Jackets within one with a power-play goal at 16:30, but Ehlers netted his seventh goal of the season and completed his hat trick at 18:51. Morrissey added another power-play goal at 11:39 in the third, and he assisted Gabriel Vilardi’s goal at 14:54.
