At 49 years old, he has managed a disappointing 2024-25 NFL season, with the team sitting at 2-5.
The team is gearing up for a Monday Night Football matchup in Week 8 against the strong Pittsburgh Steelers.
There have been calls from fans for head coach Brian Daboll to be dismissed due to frustrations with the team’s performance. Similarly, many upset Giants supporters are demanding that general manager Joe Schoen be let go as well.
However, owner John Mara has publicly backed both Daboll and Schoen, expressing a desire for them to complete their current project.
“We’re all very disappointed with our situation right now,” Mara stated on Wednesday evening. “Let me be clear: we’re not making any changes this season. I don’t expect to make any changes in the offseason, either. I’ve been in meetings with them, discussing our future and personnel evaluations. I still have confidence in both of them.”
Mara made these remarks during the premiere of ‘The Duke: Wellington Mara’s Giant Life,’ which highlights his father’s contributions to American football.
The Giants are coming off a devastating home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, suffering a 28-3 defeat at MetLife Stadium. Adding insult to injury, former star Saquon Barkley torched his old team with 176 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.
This season, the Giants have scored only once at home in four games. Quarterback Daniel Jones continues to struggle, especially concerning his $160 million contract, which has two years remaining. It’s likely the team will target a new quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, with Daboll and Schoen at the helm, supported by Mara.
