HUGE: Cubs Dealt Major Blow as Star Player Placed on Long-Term Injured List

CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner underwent surgery on his right hand after the conclusion of the season.

The 27-year-old had right flexor tendon surgery on October 11, performed by Dr. Keith Meister. The team did not provide any additional details on the surgery.

Hoerner had a strong season, batting .273 with seven home runs, 48 RBIs, and 31 steals in a career-high 151 games. He finished particularly well, hitting .346 (45-for-130) in his last 34 games.

The Cubs wrapped up the season with an 83-79 record, missing the playoffs for the fourth year in a row.

Selected by Chicago in the first round of the 2018 amateur draft out of Stanford University, Hoerner signed a $35 million, three-year contract in March 2023, which runs through the 2026 season.

Since making his big league debut in 2019, Hoerner has compiled a .278 batting average with 29 home runs, 217 RBIs, and 102 steals across 548 major league games. He was also a Gold Glove winner in 2023.
