Major Update: Chicago Cubs Projected to Land Three-Year Blockbuster Deal with Star Player

The Chicago Cubs fell short of expectations in 2024 and are expected to be active in free agency as they look to close the gap with the National League Central champion Milwaukee Brewers.

Teoscar Hernández hits 2 home runs in Dodgers' win over Cardinals - Los Angeles Times

In a recent article, FanSided’s Zach Pressnell suggested that instead of pursuing Juan Soto, the Cubs should focus on signing Teoscar Hernández from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pressnell highlighted Hernández’s impressive 2023 season, where he posted a .272/.339/.501 batting line with 32 doubles and a career-high 33 home runs. “Adding Hernandez would provide the impact bat that Chicago desperately needs, especially at Wrigley Field,” he wrote.

While the Cubs would love to acquire Soto, Pressnell noted that they may not be among the top contenders for the superstar, despite their financial capacity. “If the Cubs want an outfielder, Juan Soto is their top target, but they likely won’t have the budget for such an expensive player,” he explained. Instead, targeting a player like Hernández, who could command around $25-30 million annually, makes more sense.

Spotrac predicts that Hernández will secure a three-year, $71 million deal in free agency. If Cody Bellinger opts into his contract and returns, the Cubs could form a strong outfield duo.
