Kirby Smart addressed fans with some heartbreaking news regarding a significant loss for the team. While he didn’t specify the exact timeline, he mentioned that the absence would be felt deeply and could extend over several weeks.
Georgia Bulldogs running back Branson Robinson left Saturday’s 41-31 victory over Mississippi State early due to a right knee injury.
Head coach Kirby Smart initially had limited information after the game, but provided more details on Monday. He confirmed that Robinson is dealing with an MCL injury and while he couldn’t specify a return timeline, he indicated that Robinson might be sidelined for at least the next two to three weeks.
The positive note is that it’s not the same knee he injured last season.
“Yeah, so Branson has an MCL,” Smart said. “I can’t say how many weeks it will be. He won’t be available this week. It’s tough to predict because MCL injuries need time to heal. We’ve seen recovery times range from two to three weeks. I just don’t know what it will be, but he will be okay. It’s just a matter of time, and this is a different injury from what he had before.”
So far this season, Robinson has rushed 22 times for 61 yards and two touchdowns. With him out for the upcoming game against No. 1 Texas, the Bulldogs will turn to starter Tevor Etienne, true freshman Nate Frazier, and redshirt junior Cash Jones to carry the load.
