The Toronto Blue Jays might have struggled in the 2024 season, but it’s too soon to write them off for 2025.
Despite finishing last in the American League East, they still retain much of the roster that achieved 89 wins in 2023. With several star players on the team, a comeback in 2025 is possible.
To enhance their chances, adding another power hitter to the lineup seems essential. ESPN’s Buster Olney suggested that Alex Bregman, the Houston Astros’ standout third baseman, could be a perfect match.
“Bregman is a proven winner and an excellent third baseman who can hit, which would strengthen their lineup,” Olney stated. “The Blue Jays have been seeking a long-term solution at third base for a couple of years. They made a $125 million offer to Matt Chapman early in the 2023 season, and Bregman could fit their needs in many ways.”
Bregman is expected to command a deal larger than the offer made to Chapman, with projections around $165 million over six years according to Spotrac.
As a two-time All-Star, he has been one of the top third basemen in the league for the past nine years and could be an ideal addition for the Blue Jays. Given their willingness to pursue big-name free agents like Shohei Ohtani last year, targeting Bregman makes sense.
