The Indianapolis Colts have signed running back to their practice squad and released kicker Spencer Shrader from the same squad.
The 25-year-old, who stands 5-11 and weighs 197 pounds, has appeared in 38 career games (four starts) with the Denver Broncos (2024), Miami Dolphins (2020-24), and San Francisco 49ers (2020). He has accumulated 163 carries for 593 yards (averaging 3.6 yards per carry) and scored five touchdowns. Additionally, he has recorded 40 receptions for 274 yards and one touchdown. In the postseason, he played in one game, where he had five carries for three yards and three receptions for 45 yards. Ahmed was initially signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2020, after playing at Washington. Salvon Ahmed is pronounced suh-VON OCK-med.
Shrader, measuring 6-2 and weighing 201 pounds, has had several spells on the Colts’ practice squad this season. He was elevated to the active roster for Week 1 against Houston, where he successfully converted three extra points. Shrader participated in the Colts’ 2024 offseason program and training camp after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2024. During his college career, he played in 57 games at Notre Dame (2023) and USF (2019-22), converting 43 of 63 field goals and 156 of 158 extra points for a total of 285 points. In 2023, he played all 13 games, making 15 of 22 field goals and 61 of 62 extra points for 106 points. He was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award in 2021. His last name is pronounced Sh-RAID-err.
