The Pittsburgh Steelers are emerging as frontrunners to acquire Las Vegas Raiders superstar. Despite a Week 5 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh appears to have come out of it in the best shape compared to other teams vying for Adams.
Before Week 5, the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints were considered the top contenders for a trade, especially since both had quarterbacks with whom Adams had previously played and were prepared to make significant offers.
However, as Week 6 begins, the landscape has shifted. The Jets have fired head coach Robert Saleh, and the Saints have lost quarterback Derek Carr to an oblique injury. Meanwhile, the Steelers boast a 3-2 record, a well-regarded head coach in Mike Tomlin, and two healthy starting quarterbacks, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that the recent developments with the Jets and Saints have impacted trade discussions. “I think the events in New York and New Orleans may have slowed down talks with those two teams, and we’ll see if and when they can pick up some steam,” he stated. “Everyone expects that Adams is going to be traded; we just don’t know where or when.”
The Steelers have been pursuing a trade for Davante Adams since he became available, and given their aggressive attempts to acquire Brandon Aiyuk this summer, it’s clear they’d be willing to make a substantial offer for Adams.
The situation appears to be intensifying, as The Athletic’s Dianna Russini suggests a trade could occur within the next few hours.
With the recent developments affecting the Jets and Saints, the Steelers may have moved to the top of both the Raiders’ and Adams’s preference lists. If a deal materializes soon, they could finally secure the star wide receiver they’ve been seeking.
