Three Green Bay Packers starters returned to practice on Thursday, but starting receiver Romeo Doubs and rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper were absent. Coach Matt LaFleur mentioned that Doubs missed practice for personal reasons and expressed hope that he would return on Friday.
Cooper, who had a career-high 21 snaps against the Vikings last Sunday, was seen riding a stationary bike and did not join his teammates outside. He had limited participation in Wednesday’s practice due to a hip injury. The second-round pick from Texas A&M missed Family Night and the entire preseason because of the injury. So far this season, he has recorded four tackles in three of four games, including a half-sack against the Titans and his first tackle for loss against the Vikings.
Linebackers coach Anthony Campanile noted Cooper’s progress since his first game in Brazil, praising his hard work and improvement in understanding the system. “He’s an explosive athlete,” Campanile added, highlighting Cooper’s dedication and development during drills.
If Cooper cannot play, the Packers will rely on veteran linebackers Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie, and Eric Wilson. Quarterback Jordan Love participated fully in practice after being limited in previous sessions and missing Week 3. Receiver Jayden Reed commented that consistent practice is key for improving the passing game.
Receiver Christian Watson, tight end Luke Musgrave, and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt missed practice again due to injuries. Love expressed confidence in the depth of the receiving corps, saying they have plenty of experience to step up.
On the positive side, cornerback Jaire Alexander returned from a groin injury, defensive tackle Kenny Clark participated in stretches despite a toe injury, and left guard Elgton Jenkins was back after a knee issue. Cornerback Carrington Valentine also returned, which LaFleur noted would bolster their depth.
The Rams are facing their own injury challenges, with receiver Puka Nacua on injured reserve, Cooper Kupp out with an ankle injury, and tight end Tyler Higbee on the physically unable to perform list. Their only change from Wednesday was defensive end Larrell Murchison, who went from limited participation to not practicing due to a forearm injury compounded by a foot issue.
