The Pittsburgh Steelers have brought linebacker back to their practice squad, filling the vacancy created by running back Aaron Shampklin’s promotion to the 53-man roster. The team now has 17 players on the practice squad and one available spot on the active roster, with outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon likely to take that spot after his return from injured reserve.
The Steelers let Windmon go during their roster cut-downs to the 53-man limit. He garnered interest from several NFL teams, including the Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns, and Carolina Panthers, who invited him for workouts after his release. Windmon now joins veteran Devin Harper as the inside linebackers on the Steelers’ practice squad. While he primarily played off-ball linebacker during training camp, he is also capable of playing outside linebacker.
The Steelers signed Windmon, a 23-year-old former Michigan State player, as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 240 pounds, he played two seasons with the Spartans after transferring from UNLV in 2022, accumulating 64 tackles and 6.5 sacks during his time in the Big Ten.
