Breaking News: St. Louis Blues reportedly confirm the signing of another talented player to bolster squad depth

The St. Louis Blues have sign forward  to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2024-25 season, the club announced Monday morning.

The 24-year-old had been attending Blues training camp as a tryout as he awaited a new contract, which was eventually signed on Monday to begin the upcoming week. Before the Blues take on the Seattle Kraken in their season debut on October 8, they have three exhibition games left.

He was first chosen by the Blues in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft (at pick No. 62 overall). During the 2023–24 season, the Burgwedel, Germany native played in 23 games for the Blues and recorded two points (both assists).

Until the 2024–25 season, He was one of just two RFAs in the NHL without a new deal. Goalie Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins is the other; his negotiations with management have been far more public and confrontational than anyone could have predicted.

Following a productive junior career with the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL, Alexandrov played in both the AHL and Finland during the COVID-19 season before moving to North America full-time in 2020–21. In his first 28 NHL games with the Blues in the 2022–2023 season, the 6’1′′, 177-pound forward skated and recorded three goals and seven points.

According to the Blues, Alexandrov’s new contract carries a $775,000 NHL cap hit for the 2024-25 season and will see him paid a $150,000 salary for the time he spends in the AHL. Additionally, Alexandrov is no longer exempt from waivers and will have to pass through them to be assigned to the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds.

The Blues spent the 2024 NHL offseason drastically reshaping their forward group, bringing in Dylan Holloway, Radek Faksa, Mathieu Joseph, and Alexandre Texier to supplement Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, and Pavel Buchnevich. Alexandrov will also have to beat out the likes of Kasperi Kapanen, Oskar Sundqvist, Nikita Toropchenko, and Nathan Walker to secure a spot on this Blues roster.
