Breaking News: New York Rangers cut four players from roster

On Tuesday, the New York Rangers placed four players on waivers, including goalie Louis Domingue. If they clear waivers on Wednesday, they are expected to be assigned to Hartford in the American Hockey League. The Rangers also put defensemen Casey Fitzgerald and Brandon Scanlin, as well as forward Anton Blidh, on waivers.

At the start of training camp, it was anticipated that all four players would be on Hartford’s roster this season, including Louis Domingue, who is the most recognizable name on the list.

The 32-year-old goalie has 143 games of NHL experience, including one game with the Rangers last season. He made 25 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild during his Rangers debut on November 9.

Domingue is the No. 3 goalie in the Rangers organization, behind Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick, and ahead of third-year pro Dylan Garand, his teammate in Hartford. He originally signed with the Rangers as a free agent after performing well against them in the first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. After injuries to goalies Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith, Domingue posted a 3-3 record in six games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, a series the Rangers won in seven games.

Last season, Domingue recorded a 16-8-4 record with a 2.66 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage, and one shutout while with Hartford.
