The Florida Gators’ commitment list decreased by one when four-star safety from Palm Bay (Fla.) Heritage switched his commitment back to Syracuse. Initially, the Gators had flipped Samuel from Syracuse when he joined their 2025 class in late July. He had recently reclassified from the 2026 to the 2025 class and had just come off a successful visit to Gainesville days before his commitment.
However, after visiting Syracuse this weekend, he decided to return to the Orange. Samuel had initially committed to Syracuse on March 30 as a 2026 prospect, then reclassified and committed to Florida on July 31.
His last visit to Florida was for their season opener against Miami, and he had mentioned wanting to take more visits in the future during a recent conversation with Swamp247. With his departure, the Gators now have no commitments for the safety position in the 2025 recruiting class.
As of the end of August, the Florida Gators’ 2025 commitment list has grown to 13 verbal commitments. The class includes four-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III from Orlando (Fla.) Jones, four-star Edge rusher Jalen Wiggins from Tallahassee (Fla.) James Rickards, and four-star cornerback Ben Hanks Jr. from Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington. Additionally, there are four-star running back Waltez Clark from Tampa (Fla.) Plant, four-star linebacker Myles Johnson from Brewton (AL) T.R. Miller, and three-star wide receivers Joshua Moore from Pembroke Pines (Fla.) West Broward and Naeshaun Montgomery from Miami (Fla.) Central.
The class also features three-star tight ends Tae’Shaun Gelsey from Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside and Micah Jones from Madison (MS) Central, along with three-star running back Chad Gasper from Fulshear (TX) Katy Jordan. The defensive line is represented by three-star Jeramiah McCloud from Leesburg (GA) Lee County and three-star Joseph Mbatchou from Lognville (GA) Grayson. Finally, the list includes three-star punter Hayden Craig from Bridgton (ME) Academy.
