Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is sending his best wishes to cornerback Jaden Mickey as he prepares to leave South Bend.
Mickey has chosen to redshirt this season and will enter the transfer portal, concluding his time at Notre Dame. Having played in only four games this year, he will have two years of eligibility at his new school, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
Freeman expressed his support for Mickey’s decision, stating to reporters that he is a “great young man who has faced a lot,” particularly mentioning the loss of Mickey’s mother to cancer.
“Everybody’s going to have an opinion, myself included, but it’s not our opinion that really matters,” Freeman said. “Jaden Mickey made a decision that he felt was best for him, so for me to do anything other than support him, is selfish. I’m not in his shoes, I don’t know what’s going on in his life. This is what he said is best for him and his future.”
