Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher has been deemed “highly unlikely” to return this season after MRI scans showed he has a sprained elbow. The team placed him on the injured list on August 16 due to elbow tendinitis, initially hoping he could make it back for the postseason.
However, it seems Glasnow will likely miss another playoff opportunity, as ongoing injuries have hindered him from completing a full season. This is his second stint on the injured list this year, and he has frequently battled injuries, particularly in his elbow, which he described as “extremely frustrating” on Friday.
“It’s extremely frustrating because it’s the same issue over and over again,” Glasnow told reporters, according to SportsNet LA. “I’m looking for answers and a long-term solution… My ultimate goal is to pitch in the postseason.”
While Glasnow doesn’t think he will require surgery, he intends to focus on improving his mechanics—especially his long extension—hoping to reduce the strain on his pitching elbow with these adjustments.
“I’m going to focus on my mechanics,” Glasnow said, according to SportsNet LA. “I know my mechanics are good, but my long extension puts a lot of stress on my arm. If I can find ways to shorten my delivery or make it more efficient, I want to maintain consistency throughout the season. That’s every pitcher’s dream, and I’m trying to figure out how to get my arm in a better position.”
Before his season was cut short, Glasnow started a career-high 22 games for the Dodgers, finishing with a record of 9-6, a 3.49 ERA, and a career-high 168 strikeouts. He also made his first All-Star Game appearance.
