News Alert: Kansas City Chiefs Add Another Fast-Rising Star Player to Their Roster

Kareem Hunt’s return to Kansas City won’t guarantee an immediate spot on the active roster. Instead, the Chiefs have promoted one of their current practice-squad running backs, Keaontay Ingram, to the 53-man roster. Hunt remains on the practice squad for now.

Ingram joins Samaje Perine and rookie UDFA Carson Steele as part of the active roster. He was signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad in late November after being a sixth-round pick by the Cardinals in 2022. Ingram played 20 games with Arizona, recording 62 carries for 134 yards and a touchdown, but he has yet to see game action with Kansas City.

Hunt can be elevated from the practice squad up to three times, but as a vested veteran, he can freely move between the practice squad and the 53-man roster until the day after the trade deadline. After that, all players become subject to waivers. It’s likely that Hunt will transition to the 53-man roster permanently once his elevation period concludes.

The Chiefs are facing this situation because Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been placed on the reserve/non-football illness list, and Isiah Pacheco is recovering from a fibula fracture. Head coach Andy Reid mentioned that Pacheco is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday and is hoping to return in the second half of the season.
