Heading into Week 2, much of the attention has been on the offensive side of the game, particularly with the upcoming match against the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Joe Burrow and his team had a tough time without wide receiver Tee Higgins, leading to a disappointing 16-10 defeat.
On the defensive side, Cincinnati’s front didn’t help matters much either, managing only one sack on Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Depth and talent are concerns for the Bengals on the edge, especially behind their star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. Could the team be looking to address this issue soon?
ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano has addressed these pass-rush problems and mentioned a potential solution involving a disgruntled Pro Bowler. Graziano speculates that the Bengals might target New York Jets veteran Haason Reddick. He outlines how a trade could be structured and suggests which players might head to New York as part of a major deal.
ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano has suggested that the New York Jets might look to bolster their tight end depth, noting that the Bengals have several tight ends, including Mike Gesicki and Drew Sample, while also drafting two more in the latest draft. Graziano speculates that a trade involving edge rusher Haason Reddick could make sense, as the Bengals need additional pass-rush support alongside Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard, especially after posting a pass rush win rate of just 37.9% in 2023.
Reddick, 29, has been a holdout since being acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles this spring and missed the Jets’ first game. With his contract expiring after the 2024 season and the trade deadline approaching on November 5, the Jets may be pressured to move him.
Graziano notes that Hudson could be a valuable addition to the Jets’ offense, which struggled against the San Francisco 49ers. Hudson caught 39 passes for 352 yards last season. In return, the Bengals could acquire Reddick along with a fourth-round pick.
From the Bengals’ perspective, adding Reddick could address their pass-rush deficiencies. However, the potential issue is Reddick’s contract situation. Given that the Bengals are currently negotiating contracts with key players like Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, acquiring Reddick and signing him to a significant extension could be challenging.
Reddick, a former first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals, has recorded 83 QB hits, 51 tackles for loss, and 50.5 sacks over the past four seasons.
