NC State Football are set to Flip Promising talent to bolster squad depth

A  standout linebacker from Central Catholic High School in Pennsylvania, announced his commitment to first-year Duke head coach Manny Diaz and his staff on June 16. However, nearly three months later, it seems that other recruiting teams, including Dave Doeren’s NC State football staff, are starting to question whether Gompers’ verbal commitment to Duke is fully secured.

Gompers, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound linebacker who is on the verge of four-star status, currently ranked No. 785 overall and No. 80 among linebackers on the 247Sports 2025 Composite, announced a new offer from Ole Miss via a post on Wednesday morning. This marks the first new offer he has shared since his commitment to Duke.

Less than a minute later, Gompers, who runs a 4.48-second 40-yard dash and also plays tight end for Central Catholic, disclosed his offer from NC State after conversing with the Wolfpack’s football director of recruiting, Alex Faulk.

Later in the day, another senior recruit reported an offer from NC State. Josh Smith, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound edge rusher from Dutch Fork High School in South Carolina who had committed to Coastal Carolina in April, revealed that the Wolfpack is among the new suitors interested in him over the past week. Smith is a three-star prospect who has recently attracted several new offers.

Yes, it appears that recruiters in Raleigh are actively pursuing potential flips as they aim to strengthen their 2025 class, which currently ranks No. 52 nationally with 18 commitments, according to 247Sports.
