JUST IN: Ohio State Buckeyes Steal Away Top Alabama Crimson Tide Commit

Last year, the Ohio State Buckeyes missed out on running back Anthony Rogers when the four-star recruit committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide in June 2023. However, there is still an opportunity for Ohio State to alter Rogers’ decision.

Rogers has announced that he will make his final choice this December, and the Buckeyes are making a strong late effort to sway him. According to Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts, Ohio State has made notable progress with Rogers and remains a contender in his recruitment, despite his verbal commitment to Alabama (h/t Del Barris of Scarlet & Game).

Carver's Anthony Rogers (2) celebrates a touchdown late in the first half against Vestavia Hills during their game at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., on Friday August 23, 2024.

Rogers maintains a solid relationship with Ohio State’s running backs coach, Carlos Locklyn, who also hails from Montgomery. Rogers is impressed with the Buckeyes’ offensive performance under new coordinator Chip Kelly and believes he would be an ideal fit for their rushing game.

Ohio State’s current backfield features Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson, both of whom are averaging over seven yards per carry through the first two games of 2024. However, with Henderson being a senior and Judkins likely heading to the NFL in 2025, the Buckeyes are focusing on future prospects and are keen on adding Rogers.

It remains to be seen whether Ohio State can persuade the Carver High School standout to switch his commitment from Alabama in the coming months.

Ohio State has a bye this week and will face the Marshall Thundering Herd on September 21.
