Just In: What a Swap Deal!! Red Wings Acquire Star Forward for Top Prospect From Calgary flames

The Detroit Red Wings are aiming to break their playoff drought, and a proposed trade could significantly boost their offensive firepower by adding a proven goal scorer.

According to PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, which allows users to propose trades, one suggestion involves the Red Wings acquiring Yegor Sharangovich from the Calgary Flames.

In the proposed trade, Detroit would receive:

– Yegor Sharangovich

And Calgary would get:

– Nate Danielson
– Ville Husso
– A 2025 second-round pick

This trade would bring Sharangovich, a key goal-scorer, to Detroit in exchange for a promising prospect, a backup goalie, and a future draft pick. Sharangovich is in the final year of his current two-year, $6.2 million contract but has already signed a five-year, $28.75 million extension with Calgary. At 26, he would fit well with Detroit’s young roster, giving them six seasons with him.

Last season with the Flames, Sharangovich scored 31 goals and added 28 assists, totaling 59 points in 82 games, his first year with Calgary after being traded from the New Jersey Devils.

To acquire Sharangovich, Detroit would send top prospect Nate Danielson to Calgary. Danielson, who was the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, could join the NHL roster this season. He turns 20 on September 27 and had an impressive WHL season last year, scoring 24 goals and 43 assists for 67 points in 54 games.

Ville Husso, who is blocked by the Red Wings’ new starter Cam Talbot, would be part of the trade. Detroit also has Alex Lyon and Jack Campbell vying for the backup goalie spot. Husso is in the final year of his three-year, $14.25 million deal and had a 9-5-2 record last season with a 3.55 GAA and .892 SV%.

Sharangovich, who was traded to Calgary on June 27, 2023, in the deal for Tyler Toffoli, signed a five-year extension with the Flames on July 1. He’s expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season, feeling supported by the coaching staff and ready to contribute further after a solid summer of training.

Selected 141st overall by the Devils in the 2018 NHL Draft, Sharangovich has played 287 games, scoring 84 goals and 81 assists for 165 points.

Detroit General Manager Steve Yzerman believes the team, which missed the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season last year, is now better positioned. The Red Wings have added Vladimir Tarasenko, Cam Talbot, Tyler Motte, and Erik Gustafsson in the offseason and re-signed Patrick Kane. Yzerman is optimistic about the team’s chances, noting that if they stay healthy and perform above expectations, they could make the playoffs.

The Red Wings will start the 2024-25 NHL season at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 10.
