At the start of the 2024 season, the Toronto Blue Jays were expected to perform well. However, after two straight postseason appearances, they have fallen short of these expectations. With a current record of 68-77, they are at the bottom of the American League East, and their chances of making the playoffs this year are slim.
Despite this disappointing season, the Blue Jays are setting their sights on a strong comeback in 2025. According to Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report, the team might pursue a star third baseman in the upcoming offseason.
“Although Ernie Clement has been solid at third base, should the Jays settle for a player who had a decent but not standout season at 28 when they could target someone like Alex Bregman?”
Bregman could be a perfect addition to the Toronto lineup. With key players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and George Springer already in place, Bregman’s arrival would strengthen their lineup significantly.
Additionally, Bregman would be reunited with George Springer, a former teammate from the Houston Astros’ 2017 World Series-winning squad.
Currently, Bregman is batting .259 with 22 home runs, 65 RBI, three stolen bases, and a .762 OPS, which is timely given that he is in his walk year. Signing him would suggest that the Blue Jays are serious about contending in 2025 and view the 2024 season as an anomaly.
It will be intriguing to see if the Blue Jays make a move for Bregman in the offseason.
