“I really hope to retire as a Yankee,” Rizzo said.

Yankees: Anthony Rizzo has clung to his customary play as his career winds down

At 35 years old, Rizzo is approaching the twilight of his distinguished career. While the three-time All-Star remains a key part of the Yankees’ lineup, his performance has declined in 2024, moving away from the high level of play that earned him accolades in previous years. His most recent award was his fourth and final Gold Glove, which he won in 2020 before joining the Yankees.

The Florida native has not received an All-Star or Silver Slugger award since 2016. In 2024, Rizzo has contributed eight home runs in 76 games, with a .222/.285/.338 batting line and a negative WAR of -0.5. Despite these struggles at the plate, he has excelled defensively at first base, boasting a 99.5 percent fielding percentage with 490 putouts, 67 assists, and just three errors.
