Huge Boost: Marshall announces Another Significant addition

Marshall football concluded its 2024 recruiting efforts on Wednesday, unveiling a class that is highly ranked among Sun Belt programs according to several well-regarded recruiting services.

The class consists of 36 new players, including 21 from the NCAA Transfer Portal and 15 who have just completed high school.

“Signing Day is like Christmas for football coaches, and our staff feels it’s also a moment to take a deep breath, allowing us to shift focus to the 2024 season,” said Huff. “Overall, when combining high school and transfer portal recruits, we are ranked No. 1 in some lists and No. 2 in others within the Sun Belt Conference, which positions us at the top of the league. We also have the No. 1 transfer portal class among Group of Five schools.

“The results were surprising to me. I want to extend a huge thank you to our staff and administration for their outstanding work.”

The recruiting class includes two high school players from West Virginia: Hurricane High quarterback JacQai Long and Cabell Midland defensive lineman Michael Lunsford. Additionally, defensive back Isaiah Johnson, a Bluefield native, joins via the transfer portal from Arizona State.

Among the portal additions, 12 come from Power 5 Conference schools, such as Florida, Wake Forest, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Arizona, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Michigan State.

The class features 22 offensive players and 14 defensive players. On offense, there are eight new wide receivers, seven new offensive linemen, three quarterbacks, and two tight ends and tailbacks each.

“We aim to balance the number of players we lose to graduation with an equivalent number of high school recruits to continually develop new talent,” Huff noted. “Our staff did an excellent job despite the season ending differently than we had hoped.”

Most of the new recruits are already enrolled at Marshall and will participate in spring drills starting in mid-to-late March. Seven of the high school recruits have arrived early.

Marshall’s annual Spring Football game is set for April 20 at 4 p.m. at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
