BREAKING: Five-star super talent commit to Kentucky Wildcats Basketball

Class of 2025 five-star prospect the nation’s No. 2 shooting guard and No. 12 overall recruit, announced his commitment to Kentucky and new Wildcats coach Mark Pope on Thursday. The announcement took place at Woodford County High School in Versailles, Kentucky, and was broadcast on CBS Sports HQ and the 247Sports YouTube Channel. Johnson selected Kentucky over a strong list of competitors, including Louisville, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Alabama.

Jasper Johnson picks UK

Johnson is a 6-foot-4 guard currently playing for Overtime Elite (OTE), a professional league established in 2021 that has produced notable talents such as Amen and Ausar Thompson. Prior to joining OTE, he spent his junior season at Link Academy in Missouri and has since become renowned for his well-rounded and versatile skill set.

Here’s a scouting report on Johnson from Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports Director of Scouting:

Johnson, a native of Kentucky, represents the second top-25 commitment for the 2025 class for UK, both of whom hail from the Bluegrass State. Four-star center prospect Malachi Moreno, who also committed to Kentucky a few weeks ago, publicly advocated for Johnson to join him this week.

In a podcast, Moreno expressed his excitement about the prospect of teaming up with Johnson: “He’s one of those guys that I really wanna play with. I’ve played against him my whole life and now it’s time we become teammates.”

With Johnson’s commitment, Kentucky will rise from No. 13 to No. 2 in the 247Sports national recruiting rankings, trailing only Iowa State. Coach Mark Pope and his staff may not be finished adding top talent for the 2025 class, as five-star prospects Koa Peat and Caleb Wilson, among others, remain uncommitted and are still considering the Wildcats.
