The Atlanta Falcons have added another Chicago Bears player to their roster, this time signing quarterback .
As reported on the team’s transaction wire for September 3, he was signed to the Falcons’ practice squad on Tuesday, slotting in as their new third-string quarterback behind veteran Kirk Cousins and rookie Michael Penix Jr., who was a first-round pick.
Peterman had spent the last two seasons with the Bears, playing in five games and starting one in 2022. He started the 2023 season as the Bears’ primary backup to Justin Fields, but his role as the No. 2 quarterback was short-lived as the team prepared Tyson Bagent for that position.
The Bears opted not to retain Peterman for the 2024 season, choosing instead to sign veteran Brett Rypien and undrafted rookie Austin Reed, who is currently their third-string quarterback.
After not receiving a return offer from the Bears, Peterman joined the New Orleans Saints in March but was released in early August. He then spent most of the preseason with the Las Vegas Raiders, who also released him during their roster cuts, making him a free agent again.
The Falcons now have seven former Bears on their roster. They previously signed wide receiver Darnell Mooney and defensive tackle Eddie Goldman in free agency, and they also have edge rusher Khalid Kareem, defensive lineman LaCale London, offensive tackle Elijah Wilkinson, and safety Dane Cruikshank on their practice squad.
To make space for Peterman, the Falcons released former Bear Julién Davenport.
