In terms of recruiting, Courtney Banghart and the North Carolina program are still very successful.
A five-star recruit in the class of 2025, committed to the Tar Heels. The 6-foot-1 wing from Alexandria, Virginia, had previously committed to Tennessee, but after Knoxville’s coaching change, she began recruiting again.
She evaluated a wide range of possibilities before reducing her list to four universities. Out of Georgia, Tennessee, and Maryland, she choose UNC.
According to ESPN, Brooks is rated as the class’s No. 14 talent.
“The procedure worked well,” Brooks stated to 247Sports. Many institutions contacted me prior to my commitment to Tennessee. Those programs still loved me and made an effort to recruit me after I de-committed, which meant a lot. Before committing to Tennessee, I developed ties with many other colleges who expressed interest in me. This time, my intention was to remain near my east coast residence.
Brooks studies in Alexandria, Virginia’s Bishop Ireton High School.
According to Brooks, she choose North Carolina because it’s near home, her parents think well of the institution, and the academic offerings there suit her interests.
“I want to study sports management in college and UNC has a top five program in the country,” Brooks stated to 247Sports.
“On the basketball side, I want an opportunity where I can come in, make an immediate impact, work hard, develop, and get to the next level,” Brooks stated. “I believe those coaches can assist me in achieving it.
“Aside from that, even in our private conversations, the players are really chill and compliment the coaches. They spoke well of them even though I asked them difficult questions. I also developed strong bonds with Carolina’s coaching staff. They are genuinely nice individuals. They also developed strong relationships with my parents. Overall, it was ideal for me.”
The second well-known addition to Banghart’s roster in the last week is Brooks. Taliyah Henderson, another five-star recruit signed by the Tar Heels, is someone Brooks is eager to get to know.
“Every year, North Carolina attracts elite talent,” stated Brooks. I haven’t played against Taliyah or had the opportunity to meet her in person, so my knowledge of her is limited, but based on what I have seen, she is an extremely talented player. For the benefit of this class and the program, we can both contribute. The class of 2025 will be fantastic. This is nothing new as North Carolina consistently attracts a high class each year.”
Regarding expectations for Brooks in the upcoming season, Banghart outlined a strategy for her.
