On Tuesday night, Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees struggled both offensively and defensively against the Washington Nationals. Despite recording eight hits, the Yankees failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-8. Their fielding was equally disappointing, with the team committing four errors. The frustrating performance led to a 4-2 defeat in the interleague matchup at Nationals Park.
“I think we had 3 or 4 errors on the night,” Judge told reporters in the locker room following the game (h/t YES Network). “Anytime something like that happens, it’s tough to win a ball game.”
Aaron Judge had an opportunity to be the Yankees’ savior when he came up to bat with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Unfortunately, he grounded into a double play, though DJ LeMahieu managed to score New York’s first run of the night. Judge ended the game with a 1-for-3 performance, including a walk and a strikeout. The Yankees now have 79 errors this season, ranking seventh in the majors. It’s clear they can’t always depend on Judge to bail them out, especially when self-inflicted mistakes are costing them games.
The 78-55 Yankees have a chance to bounce back from the loss on Wednesday when they face Washington in the final game of their three-game series.
