CHGO Cubs Weekly: Looks like Ethan Roberts will get another big league shot

He left the game shortly after and is now considered day-to-day. Roberts, who returned from Tommy John surgery on June 30, has a 3.14 ERA in 10 games since his return.

Aug. 27: RHP Julian Merryweather placed on the 15-day IL with right knee tendinitis; RHP Keegan Thompson recalled from Triple-A. Merryweather, who last pitched on Sunday against the Marlins and allowed four runs in one inning, has struggled with this injury throughout the season. Manager Craig Counsell noted that the injury flared up again, necessitating an IL stint. Thompson, who was on the 15-day IL since June 28 with a right rib fracture, has completed his rehab and was activated on Aug. 7. He has pitched eight innings across six appearances with Triple-A Iowa, allowing three runs (one earned).

Aug. 27: RHP Jack Neely optioned to Triple-A Iowa; RHP Daniel Palencia recalled from Triple-A. Neely made four appearances in his Major League debut, with a mixed performance that included allowing four runs in his debut, but also two scoreless outings and a two-run game in Pittsburgh. Manager Craig Counsell hopes Neely will benefit from the feedback received. Palencia, who has been frequently moved between Triple-A Iowa and the Majors this season, was recalled after a strong recent performance in Triple-A, where he allowed five runs in 12 1/3 innings over 10 appearances.
