The Oklahoma City Thunder have been widely projected by analysts and sportsbooks to win the Western Conference and be strong contenders for the 2024-25 NBA season. As the season approaches, more predictions will emerge, including from within the NBA itself.
This week, ESPN released its annual General Manager Survey, which asked top executives who they believe will win the NBA Finals. The results showed that the Boston Celtics (8 votes) and Oklahoma City Thunder (7 votes) were the top picks.
According to Bontemps, “Boston and OKC continue to be the top choices for the league’s next champion, with the Celtics receiving a slight edge to secure their 19th title over the Thunder, who are aiming for their first.”
The Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, and Minnesota Timberwolves each received one vote. Only the Thunder and Celtics received multiple votes from executives as potential champions.
Oklahoma City trails Boston by just one vote, reflecting a successful offseason that included acquiring Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein to address the team’s major weaknesses from last season. The Thunder’s existing core, featuring emerging stars like Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, along with MVP runner-up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is complemented by a strong rotation crafted by Coach of the Year Mark Daigneault.
