St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong has announced that the team has signed defenseman and forward to two-year contracts. This move comes after the Edmonton Oilers chose not to match the offer sheets signed by both players on August 13.
To fulfill the compensation requirements for the unmatched offer sheets, the Blues are giving the Oilers their 2025 second-round draft pick for Broberg and their 2025 third-round pick for Holloway.
In a separate transaction, St. Louis is trading its 2028 third-round pick and unsigned 2023 fifth-round pick Paul Fischer to Edmonton in exchange for future considerations.
Philip Broberg, 23, was originally selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round, 8th overall, of the 2019 NHL Draft. Last season, the 6-foot-4, 212-pound defenseman played 12 regular-season games with the Oilers and 49 regular-season games with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, amassing a total of 40 points (five goals, 35 assists). In the playoffs, he recorded three points (two goals, one assist) in 10 games, contributing to the Oilers’ run to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.
In total, Broberg has played 81 NHL regular-season games, with 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) and 10 penalty minutes.
The Örebro native has also represented Sweden in various international tournaments, including winning a bronze medal at the 2020 World Junior Championships.
Dylan Holloway, 22, was originally selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round, 14th overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft. Last season, the 6-foot-1, 206-pound forward played 38 regular-season games with the Oilers and 18 with the Condors, accumulating 25 points (16 goals, nine assists) and 41 penalty minutes. He also participated in all 25 postseason games for the Oilers, scoring seven points (five goals, two assists) and accruing eight penalty minutes.
In total, Holloway has appeared in 89 NHL regular-season games, recording 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) and 56 penalty minutes.
The Calgary, Alberta, native previously attended the University of Wisconsin, where he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2021, recognizing the top collegiate player. That same year, he also earned a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2021 World Junior Championships.
