Just In: Giant NC State Basketball Target Schedules Visits

The NC State basketball staff has been aggressively recruiting Sam Funches, a center from Germantown High School (Miss.), for about a year. He was among the first 2026 prospects to receive an offer from Kevin Keatts and his team in Raleigh, and the Wolfpack coaches have frequently attended his games, including those during grassroots events this summer.

Despite this, it is surprising that NC State did not make it onto Funches’ initial list of official visits for his junior year.

On Sunday, Funches informed League Ready that he plans to visit Cal in the first weekend of October, Ole Miss at the end of October, and Gonzaga in mid-February. Additionally, he will make an unofficial visit to Mississippi State on October 19.

Although the lack of a scheduled visit to NC State might suggest that the Wolfpack isn’t currently the frontrunner for Funches, it’s important to remember that it’s still very early in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

Funches, a 6-foot-11, 220-pound rising star with nearly two dozen offers, is ranked No. 21 overall and No. 1 among centers in the 247Sports 2026 Composite.

NC State’s 2026 offer list also includes two other notable big men: four-star Latrell Allmond from John Marshall High School (Va.) and four-star Cody Peck from IMG Academy (Fla.).
