Major Boost: Phillies Reportedly Add Another Elite Talent to Strengthen Roster

The Phillies have announced star  has been reinstated from the 15-day injured list and will start today’s game against the Royals. To make room, left-hander Tyler Gilbert was sent down to Triple-A yesterday.

Ranger Suárez throws seven scoreless innings in win

Suarez’s last appearance was just over a month ago, where he gave up three runs over 5 1/3 innings in a 7-2 loss to the Twins on July 22. This performance marked his fourth consecutive difficult outing, exacerbated by ongoing back pain. Suarez missed the All-Star Game to rest his back, but after a rough start following the break, the team decided he needed more time on the IL for a full recovery.

In 2022-23, Suarez established himself as a reliable part of Philadelphia’s rotation and showed promise as a potential ace in 2024, with a 1.83 ERA over his first 16 starts and 98 1/3 innings. Despite his ERA rising to 2.87 after his last four starts, his overall season stats remain strong, including a 52.3% ground ball rate, a 5.6% walk rate, and impressive soft-contact numbers. While he relies more on contact than strikeouts, his 24.1% strikeout rate is above the league average, placing him in the 62nd percentile among pitchers.

Suarez’s performance reflects the Phillies’ recent challenges. After a strong start to the season, the team has struggled, going 19-25 since July 1. Although the Braves have also faced difficulties, they are now only five games behind the Phillies in the NL East. As of August 24, the Phillies still hold a comfortable lead, and they will be counting on a healthy and effective Suarez to help them regain their form and stay competitive in the pennant race.
