Major League Baseball announced pitcher with the Red Sox, has been suspended for 56 games due to a breach of the drug prevention and treatment program. Felix, a right-handed pitcher who played in the Dominican Summer League this year, tested positive for Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing drug that helps reduce fat while maintaining lean muscle. As a result, the 20-year-old has been placed on the restricted list and will not receive any salary during his suspension.
Felix, originally from the Dominican Republic, joined the Red Sox in June as an international free agent, signing for $10,000 after coming from Santo Domingo. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound pitcher had a 3.55 ERA (4.81 FIP) with 26 strikeouts and 14 walks in 25 1/3 innings across 14 relief appearances for Boston’s two DSL teams this season. He is not listed among the organization’s top 60 prospects on SoxProspects.com.
At 20 years old, Felix will turn 21 next May. He is the second Red Sox minor leaguer this season to face disciplinary action for a drug policy violation. Last month, fellow right-handed pitcher Charlie Zink also received a 56-game suspension for testing positive for Stanozolol.
