A standout cornerback from Kamiakin, had received nine Division I football offers, including one from Nebraska but choose to commit to Washington State University, expressing relief at having secured his next home.
“I wanted to lock in my spot and not wait until the end of my senior year,” Kuku said. “Washington State made it clear they always had a spot for me, which was a significant factor.”
Kuku shared his decision with Cougars head coach Jake Dickert, who was on vacation at the time.
“It felt like the right place for me,” Kuku said. “The vibes were great when I visited, and I wanted to stay close to home.”
Washington State’s appeal went beyond football, highlighting aspects of life after the sport and its proximity to the Tri-Cities, which was important to Kuku.
“Coach Dickert is a family guy,” Kuku noted. “He invited my family to his home, and that made me feel like this was where I wanted to be.”
Before heading to Pullman, Kuku will have one final season with the Braves. As a junior, he was named the 4A state defensive player of the year by the Washington State Football Coaches Association and earned first-team all-conference honors at defensive back in the MCC.
For his senior year, Kuku is focused on showing “dominance” and securing a championship ring for Kamiakin.
“The Braves are gonna do it.”
