BREAKING: Highly rated star player transfer to Virginia Cavaliers

Virginia makes another move in the transfer portal. UVA has filled its last scholarship for the 2024-2025 season with the addition of Kansas State star, who committed to Virginia o according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.

Averaging just over 20 minutes per game, he recorded 5.2 points and 2.0 assists per game, with a 32.9% shooting rate from three on 2.3 attempts. In his final game as a Wildcat, Ames delivered a standout performance, scoring a season-high 16 points and providing five assists against Iowa in the NIT. He made six of eight field goal attempts and four of five three-pointers. Despite modest season-long stats due to limited playing time, his impressive late-season performance indicates a promising future.

Ames, a consensus four-star recruit from the class of 2023, was a top 20 point guard and the No. 2 overall prospect in Illinois. During his senior year at Kenwood Academy in Chicago, he averaged 21.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.4 steals per game, earning a spot as a 2023 Jordan Brand Classic All-American.

After hosting Ames for an official visit last week, UVA announced his commitment on Wednesday morning. He will join Virginia with three years of eligibility left. Ames is the fifth transfer addition for UVA this offseason, following Florida State guard Jalen Warley, Duke forward TJ Power, San Diego State forward Elijah Saunders, and Vanderbilt forward Carter Lang, a Charlottesville native who will join the Cavaliers as a walk-on next season.
