‘Huge boost’ NC State flips a pair of recruits to bolster squad depth

NC State recently added a pair of prospects to its 2025 recruiting class, both of whom switched their commitments to the Wolfpack from other schools. The first is offensive lineman, who quickly accepted an offer from NC State and decommitted from Troy.

Payne, a three-star interior offensive lineman from Ohio, made the switch after initially committing to Troy on August 2 and changing his mind just 11 days later. Besides NC State, he had power-conference offers only from Syracuse.

The other addition is defensive back Gerritt Kemp, who recently flipped his commitment from Duke to NC State. Kemp had initially pledged to the Blue Devils in June but visited NC State shortly thereafter. He has also visited Ole Miss and Michigan State. Standing 6’3″ and weighing 185 pounds, Kemp had a remarkable high school season, accumulating 514 receiving yards on just 16 catches last fall.
