This morning, Alabama officially received the commitment of top super talent. Although he has been on the cusp of making a decision for the past few months, he finally set a date for his commitment a few weeks ago. Since then, Alabama fans have been eagerly anticipating this outcome.
He hails from near Meridian, MS, making Tuscaloosa and Starkville his two nearest major college options, with Ole Miss also in the mix. Auburn fans online also acted as if they were contenders, but it appeared that the decision was primarily between Alabama and the two Mississippi schools.
Securing Dear is a significant achievement for Alabama, especially considering the challenging recruiting competition for top prospects from Mississippi.
Dear is ranked as the top running back in the nation by 247Sports and second by On3. The composite rankings place him in the top 40 overall, with the 247Composite listing him as a 5-star prospect and other rankings showing him as a high 4-star.
With Dear’s commitment, Alabama extends its lead over LSU for the #2 spot in the recruiting rankings and moves closer to Ohio State, despite having four fewer recruits than the Buckeyes. If Alabama successfully adds the final five or so players to their class at their current high level, they could well finish with the top recruiting class again.
In high school, Dear was exceptional last season, amassing over 2,000 yards, and is expected to continue his impressive performance in his senior year. He is known for his size, powerful running style, and long stride speed, reminiscent of current Alabama running back Richard Young.
